So, I screwed up.
Confession time…
There’s a little story in my Heavenly War series called Requiem for Poseidon that’s had a long, ragged history. In it’s first iteration, it was published back in 2012 in a somewhat horrible little short story collection called Like a Coming Wave - Oceanic Erotica.
Ugh, the book is still out there and available for purchase. If you really want it, you can get it on Amazon at: https://www.amazon.com/Like-Coming-Wave-Oceanic-Selections-ebook/dp/B00AEH0D3S/
But do you really want it?
I mean, it’s bad. (And not in a good way.)
Still, this wasn’t where I screwed up.
Back then I was doing everything I could to get published, and this opportunity came up. I wrote it quickly, and never expected it to be picked up. No one was more surprised than me when they accepted it. Most of the stories in this collection are just plain bad, including mine. Do I regret it? Kind of, but I made $50.00 and got something professionally “edited” and published. (I’m putting the edited in quotes because the editor didn’t do much to make the story any better.)
I always liked the basic story and it was part of my Heavenly War universe, referenced in book 2, Daughter of Darkness. That is, Daughter of Darkness used to be book 2 in the series. Chronologically, the events of Poseidon happen between book 1 and book 2, so when I got the rights back to the story, I published it as book 2 in the series, and bumped Daughter of Darkness to book 3 even though Poseidon is just a short story and not a full novel. I thought reading order was important.
This is where I screwed up.
Over the past few months, I’ve watched as people buy Son of Thunder and then buy Requiem for Poseidon…then, apparently, stop reading the series. My belief is that because Poseidon is just a short story, they’re feeling cheated, and are not willing to take a chance on the other books in the series. I don’t blame them if that’s the case.
So it’s time to bite the bullet and fix things.
Very soon you will see Requiem for Poseidon go away. Daughter of Darkness will move back to book 2 in the series, and the other books will follow as normal, moving back one position.
That will make four books in the main series with three more planned for sometime in the future.
And what about Requiem for Poseidon?
I’m going to make it available to my newsletter subscribers for free in the ebook and Audio formats (as soon as I can figure out how to do that). The paperback will be going away for good. All three versions will be available for purchase through the end of the year. After that, I plan on taking it down.
In any case, the series will be in flux for a while until I get everything straightened out.
I just wanted you to know.
